Today’s entry to the comic shop is “Irredeemable” from Boom studios, written by Mark Waid. This is an amazing series and it takes you there man. Like if you really are into stories that don’t give you the traditional good vs. bad storyline and shows you the other side of what you think you know, then this is for you.

We have all asked the question, what if the most powerful hero in the world turned on us one day, what would happen? Irredeemable answers that question. We’re all screwed! This is the story of The Plutonian and how he went from being the greatest savior of humanity to the destroyer of our very thought of what heroes are and who we can really depend on. The story begins right in the middle of the action, where The Plutonian has turned on his allies and friends. He starts hunting them down, even to the point to of killing off their families. Like it gets really dark really fast and you are there for the ride.

The layout of the story from there goes back and forth between present day and the events that lead up to where we are now. We find out how The Plutonian kinda snapped really, there are some great scenes in these comics. They have some of the most memorable things come from the Plutonian really, if its him killing off the competition or my favorite and actually in the first scene of panels really. He goes up to the last surviving child of the hero he killed; after just killing her father, mother and baby brother he goes “Do you know what I am?” he walks up close and leans in and whispers into her ear, “I’m a superhero” and flies away… I’m gonna let that sink in. Like after that I was hooked.

This is about 8 volumes, that’s a compiled 37 issues of the actual comic. This is a short run series but it’s so perfect. They have it to as when the story does end, it’s perfect. They go deeper and deeper weaving this story of betrayal, corruption, and death that makes you question what it really is to be a hero. Without giving too much away I will leave you with this: Irredeemable is one of the single greatest reads I’ve done so far not from one of the major hitters. I highly suggest picking this one up for a good read, it’s a little hard to find but I think you will be able to get a digital copy or you can still get the volumes on Amazon as well. Glad you guys stopped by the Comic Shop, hopefully next time you get back we’ll have something else for you.
