Alright folks, no hot movie review but instead let’s talk about actors. The one I have in mind today is Eddie Murphy. Murphy is a staple of my younger days even with his stand up specials, guest roles on SNL, and various talk shows, Murphy has  a long list of work that stretches from the early 80’s to present. The man was a powerhouse with works like 48 Hours, Harlem Nights, even the Beverly Hills Cops trilogy was good but then he started to put out some crap Iike The Adventures of Pluto Nash!

Being the movie person that I am, I sat down and marathon watched all 50 of his movies to catalog the exact point Eddie fell from grace. The one point where this talented actor, director, writer, and comedian just stopped being great to me. 1982 was when Murphy first popped on the screen in 48 hours. Staring opposite of Nick Nolte, Murphy gave a great performance stamping his trademark wit and laugh all over the silver screen that we all came to know and love until the dark times (the dark times being the one point where his movies sucked).  I mean Murphy’s first time on a movie he got nominated, he came out the gate swinging hard with back to back movies such as Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2, Golden Child, and Boomerang. The list goes on and on. Not to even mention his stint on SNL.

Murphy was on top of the world! He was arguably one of the best actors at the time, even getting the chance to work with great actors and actresses like Richard Pryor, Red Foxx, Della Reese, and more. Then in the 90s (to be more specific 1996) Murphy donned a fat suit and played just about every part in Nutty Professor. ……. A dark time indeed to see a man known for wit and talent not even try and give us one fat and fart joke after another and have the  audacity to put a love story to it. Thank you for not trying anymore Eddie Murphy, don’t get me wrong he had a couple of good movies after that one but it seem that Nutty Professor started building Eddie’s coffin and other crap like Norbit, Pluto Nash, Showtime, and Meet Dave nailed that coffin shut.  TAKE OFF THE FAT SUIT AND TRY! Hopefully this new Beverly Hills Cop will take some of those nails out, but I highly doubt it. Excuse me while I drink to a once great actor/comedian.

EddieMurphy
