Hi there, and welcome to a new Block Mangafesto review! My name is Ashlyn but you can call me “Ashe” if you like. I’m new, so I’ll keep it simple… as best I can–I hope.

Today, I’m reviewing one of my favorite Japanese manga series which goes by the name “3×3 Eyes” and it is written/drawn by Yuzo Takeda.

The story follows the adventures of Pai, a young girl revealed to the last of an ancient race called the Sanjiyan Unkara–three-eyed demons gifted with powerful magic abilities–and her human-turned-immortal companion Yakumo Fuji (who by accident was killed and brought back to life by Pai by giving up his human soul to her) as they travel the globe in search of a means to become human so that Pai would forget her painful past. They encounter enemies who are either attempting to become immortal by taking Pai’s powers or using her to revive their deity, the demon-god Kaiyanwang but also gain allies in their search.

I found this little gem back when I was in my middle school days–and still naive to the world of anime and manga. It has two OVAs: 3×3 Eyes and 3×3 Eyes: Legend of the Divine Demon. The first OVA has four episodes and the second OVA has three which lead up to the events of volume five of the manga. I had seen the OVA before finding the manga years down the line.

More than likely, you can find the english dub of both OVAs on YouTube and possibly the subbed Japanese version.

Currently, I am re-reading this manga series (on chapter 152 out of 576) and I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of mature manga. It has twists and turns that will keep you reading until you find out how it all ends.It is filled to the brim with multiple genres (mainly supernatural, action/adventure, and romance) but it’s also not for the faint of heart (for those who can’t stand nudity and blood–which there is a lot). I really love the art style of the mangaka as well.

I don’t wish to spoil it for anyone, so go read it here: http://www.mangareader.net/184/3×3-eyes.html

Thank you for reading! 😀
