Comic Shop On The Block: Ultimate Spider-man

What is good guys, today at the shop I’m giving you a review on The Ultimate Comics Spider-man Vol. 1. Well actually, I read through Volumes 1-3, so lets just go through those too.

It took me a while to actually get around to this, with all my work on the block and my actual life, I have heard of Miles Morales but I never got a chance to get the story on the kid. So most people were wondering when he first came along, why is Spider-man black now? How did this kid get his powers and where is Peter in all of this?  This actually answers this well. Firstly Spider-man isn’t black, Miles has taken up the mantle of everyone’s favorite wall-crawler, but we’ll get into that later. Let’s get how he got his powers really.

`Just like our original friendly web head he was bitten by a radioactive spider, seriously how many of these things are just walking around, but there are some different circumstances behind how the spider got to him and how Peter got his powers. But the origin of this kid was good. I also love how his powers differ so from Peter. They gave him a little bit extra goodies, like he has a built in camouflage ability and what he likes to call his Spider Sting. It’s gotten him out and in to a lot of trouble. But the story’s dynamic is also unique as well.

The Story deals with Miles as a kid learning about his powers, his powers, and the world that has gone to hell in a hand-basket around him. He initially rejected his powers in wanting of a normal life and for fear of persecution as a mutant, so he never really developed until that one faithful day. The day Spider-man died, that book is a review in itself but go check it out. The Miles story only covered what Miles got to see and the funeral but it still hits home. After that it helped give him the boost he needed to become the hero we know today.

With dealing with the fact his uncle is The Prowler or the whole Hydra epidemic that has taken the world by storm. But this is a great read.You get to see how  he handles himself and earns the name as the Ultimate Spider-man. The fight scenes are gorgeous in this thing. He goes up against some big named villains and some not so big named, but he handles them in his own way. Miles is a great character and the development of his journey to become a hero was done well. You still get all of the same witty snaps and the funny thought bubbles as we did with Peter, and he constantly questioned how would Peter do this. But my favorite part comes from the passing of the web shooters, you’ll see that when you read it.

Overall this was a great read and I can’t wait to go deeper in the series. The guys at Marvel have struck lightning again.  I hope you guys pick this up and stay on the look out for more from the Shop.
