What is good blockheads, today in the shop we’re taking a look at Batman And Robin #33. The recent death of Robin has been taking a huge toll on Batman, because he lost his one and only true son, also mostly because his crazy Grandfather has taken his body and is trying to resurrect him from the dead.

So if you haven’t been keeping up with our caped crusader as of late, he’s been going through a lot. During the Crisis of Second Earth he lost his son, Damien Wayne, the only sidekick he had that was his flesh and blood and bared his name to the all of the craziness that was going on around them. He has lost a Robin in the past, but it was nothing like this, sorry Jason. But to make matters worst after he buried Damien and his mother Talia he kinda loses it. He even experimented on Frankenstein to see if he could pinpoint the secrets of life. It was dark there for a moment, but all goes even more south when he discovers that their bodies have been dug up and removed by Ra’s Al Ghol who has a plot of his own to resurrect his lost daughter and grandson. Honestly, I kinda saw that coming he has a Lazurus Pit and all. But that’s besides the point. But He takes the bodies where Batman cannot find them so easily. So he goes searching for his missing son’s body and during so he has made peace with losing Damien, he just wants his son’s body to be at peace so he can finally be at peace with what happened. What he finds on this journey was the answer and the body, but it’s not in ANY place you expected.

Ok, so now you’re caught up this brings us to Issue 33 . This issue deals with some big things for bats in my view, it shows you how vulnerable he is, it exposes his human side, but it reminds you on how much of a BAMF Batman can be. Honestly I have been impressed with the writing of New 52 from DC, it really goes there and it has so many layers to it and it makes the heroes that we have known for so long even more complex. They take facades of the characters we know and explores them like never before.

And that was big here. Batman was faced with two things here, his Pride and his Mortality. We know Bruce can die, it happened before, kinda. But When he found out that Damien’s body was on Apokolips, he knew there was only one thing he needed. He knew to get his son’s body back from Apokolips, that he couldn’t just waltz into there with just his utility belt and come out alive. It was at this point he decided to pull out “The HellBat Armor”. Bad ass name I know, but this apparently was the League’s answer for What would Batman do when faced with a God-like enemy?

This causes a problem for the rest of the JL, they can’t just let Batman go gallivanting across the universe in a super suit just kicking ass and taking back bodies. Also the League has decided that all founding members are need to stay on Earth, especially after what just went down with Second Earth. But this kinda sends Batman into a rage and he spits out one of the greatest lines I’ve read in a long time.  Read it for yourself…

The league finally talks him out of it and  he returns to Wayne Manor and he reflects on his actions and what to do next. This actually triggers a touching moment Between Clark and Bruce, they don’t talk as heroes, not as teammates, but more of friends, brothers even. Superman feels his pain and what he is going through. And they actually just sit and have a talk.

But even with all that went on, the ending leaves me wanting more, Bruce said that he was done and would not search for Damien on Apokolips but I feel something else is gonna come, something big. So lets all go pick up this and the next issue in the Robin Rises series and let’s see where DC goes from here.
