What is good guys, we have another album review for you and this time it’s not hip-hop. Shocker I know, but I got my hands on the latest from Knife Party, their latest drop called Abandon Ship. This was a special kind of release, because it came out exclusively in iTunes a week before everyone else could buy it in stores or any other venues. So let’s get into it shall we…
If you don’t know about Knife Party they are in the genre we come to known as EDM, or Electronic Dance Music, with the high energy and hypnotizing rhythms you come to expect from Skrillex or the legendary Daft Punk. They are in a lane of EDM called House, if you want to learn more about this Genre and style go hit up our boy DJ Horus over at Wiseguy Jukebox, he had an entire show on the genre.
This was a full 12 track journey of an album, they really put in some work on this one. Each track has a life of its own, the boys really know what they are doing and have grown with each album and this one is no different. Abandon Ship in my take is more of a schooling in what House is supposed to be, with the infectious mix of upbeat rides and the hypnotic drops that this takes, you’ll be sure to get lost in this one. So here’s the track list.
- Reconnect
- Resistance
- Boss Mode
- EDM Trend Machine
- 404
- Begin Again
- Give It Up
- D.I.M.H
- Micropenis
- Superstar
- Red Dawn
- Kaleidoscope
House is a different feel when it comes to just basic EDM, but it is something most people are familiar with, if you’ve ever been in a Rave you’ve probably danced to loads of House music. And Knife Party are one of the best right now. The duo do not disappoint wherever they go they bring the energy, and with Abandon Ship it does just what you expect from these guys. It has somewhat of a retro video game feel within most of the tracks and each track is stand-alone in its own rights, but put together they tell somewhat of a story as if you’ve been leveling up with each song. so by the time you get to track 12 Kaleidoscope you’re ready to face the boss.
Overall this was a great listen, there are some things about it that stand out like some of the transitions from track to track may be a little, not off but not smooth. As if one song does not fit but you get why it ties to the last song later on. But I would strongly recommend that you pick this up at your local store or on your favorite digital venue. I listen to it as I blog and am loving the zoning factor of it. But out of our system here we’d give it 4 1/2 GLOMPS. Not perfect, but damn near close.
