What is good guys, we have finally commenced with the Cosplayers of color and we have talked with everyone, and I want to share the hilarity with us all. So the first Feature is Ms. Bree The V, you guys may know her from some of the post on the fan page we have shared and she is blowing up on the Cosplay scene. She is a delight to sit down with and talk to, so myself and Hakurai, our editor, gt to chat with the phenomenal tiny powerhouse herself.

It’s going very well so far! Being productive with making costumes and gonna start making some vids and stuff afterward.

Thank you very much! When I actually make the effort, I work very hard on it, but I get lazy. XD Trying to break that habit.

Well, to start, Bree The V. is me! I am a 22 (almost 23 on Feb 13th) year old geek of epic proportions. I’m a gamer, cosplayer and YouTuber, and a Black Mage as a part time job.

Hakurai:

How long have you been cosplaying?

Bobbo:

I’ve been cosplaying since 2007, so I think that’s 8 or 9 years now? It’ll more than likely be 9 years when ConnectiCon comes back around. That’s my first convention I ever cosplayed as, so I use that as a marker.

Bobbo:

You’re cosplaying is almost a preteen

Bree The V!:
Yep! Pretty much!

So would you say you’re a vet? Is that what the V stands for? Lol

Bobbo:
Really Hakurai

Hakurai:

Bree The V!:
Bree The Veteran? Nope, but it could be, haha. XD Generally, the V. is any adjective that begins with V. There’s an original/true meaning, but that’s a secret.
As for being a vet, nah, hardly. I don’t consider myself a veteran of cosplay, not when there are people who have been doing this longer and better than I have.

Bobbo:

Hakurai:
How humble
So what/who are you biggest influences to cosplay? What keeps you going?

Bree The V!:
Well, I originally started cosplaying for fun, then it was my goal to do Chun-Li since she’s my mom’s favorite character, and also one of my top fave female characters. So that was the influence for a bit… Then, as I continued on, I started seeing all types of other cosplayers doing really awesome, beautiful costumes, like Lady Cels, Maki Roll, Polychrome Dreams, PeachiBunni, Jay Justice, and my senpai, AllieCat Cosplay. I wanna be as awesome with cosplay as they are.

Bree The V!:
And those are just the few I can think of immediately!

Bobbo:
So you would say that it’s the community and friends you’ve made that keeps you going??

Bree The V!:
Yes! I’d say that’s accurate. Along with the desire to be looking all good in professional photos, at the risk of sounding vain. XD I do this for fun, but I also love looking good, and I think it’s okay to be honest about that.

Bobbo:

So you said chun li was your mom’s fav character and one of your fav female characters, but what was your favorite character to cosplay?

Bree The V!:
I don’t really have a sole favorite, I generally say any recent character I’ve cosplayed is my favorite character, but I do have categories, like, fave costume to wear for comfort would probably be Catwoman, fave costume to wear for glamor would be Princess Serenity… And you know, stuff like that.

Bobbo:

I’m one of those people who finds their own jokes funny.

Bobbo:

But on to a more somber note. There has been a lot of negativity lately (more than usual) in the cosplay community, particularly for cosplayers of color. Is there anything you’d like to say to them as means of encouragement?
Them being upcoming cosplayers of color.

Bree The V!:
Generally, I’m not so blunt about this, but fuck the haters. Sincerely. Like, I don’t understand what the hate is about. Cosplayers of color, you can cosplay whatever the hell you want under the sky. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. It doesn’t make sense for people who are lily white to cosplay Edward from Cowboy Bebop, and no one bat an eyelash, but if someone cosplays Catherine from the Atlus game and isn’t white like her, the world starts losing its shit.

Bree The V!:
And I speak from personal experience. So, #fuckthemstillcosplay.
