Block Mangafesto: Peacemaker

It has been a very long time since I wrote a review and I’ll just wing it as I always do with most things. So, I hope you enjoy this manga review~

In my manga traversing, I found this western manga called Peacemaker, which was created by Ryouki Miragawa, and ran from June 19, 2007 to May 19, 2016. It has no relation to another manga called Peacemaker Kurogane which is about the Shinsengumi and set in Feudal era Japan.

The story is set in the Old West and dueling with guns is a popular sport. Hope Emerson, our main character, inherited a gun from his father (ironically named Peace) as he was a shooter for entertainment. Hope would much rather do away with the gun, which leads him to traveling in search of his older brother, Cole, but he has yet to find him. Trouble has a way of following after Hope when he kills a dangerous gunfighter named Hans “Grim Reaper” Giles in a duel. It just so happens that Hans belonged to a

mercenary group known as the Crimson Executioners, led by a millionaire named Phillip Crimson.

Hope is sought after by Crimson’s granddaughter, Nicola, to help her run away from the Executioners. Turns out that Nicola holds knowledge of a horrible plan that could very well destroy the world. With the help of new allies: a notorious gambler with impressive luck, a

skilled duelist who wants nothing more but to duel Hope, and an aristocratic daughter who knows her stuff, Hope and Nicola set out find the truth behind her grandfather’s fiendish plot.

The manga finished its serialization at 107 chapters, so it’s a steady read (most of the chapters are 30 to 50 pages). I’ll be finishing up soon–got sidetracked by work, gaming, and reading other manga—but if you like Trigun or historical manga in general, this will be a good read for you.
