We are starting a new poetry series on The Block called The Wunderground Notebook. This will be different contributing artists and poets giving themselves on the page and traveling with us in this Wunderground. Here is the first piece from K.C.
You Must’ve Forgot
You act like you forgot
You must’ve forgot
My mother reminded you
Of the fire in my eyes
The mystery that is me
My big sister
Told you we could
Fabricate diamonds in our wombs
–And from our wounds
You act like you forgot
That the secrets I told you
That the gems I gave you
That the love I have you
That the love I gave to you
Is our legacy
You act like you forgot
My backbone is strong
Enough to support us both
But you treat my—our vertebrae
Like a game of Jenga
Cause you forgot…
Every time you pick me apart,
Create a new wound,
Reopen an old one,
Diamonds replace them
So by the you’ve worn
Yourself with my destruction
You’ll look up at the fire in my eyes
And the mystery that is me
The Diamond I’ve become
–that I’ve always been
And you’ll remember…
